- Our Story -

In 1975, when Caratoke highway was a two lane road called Highway 158, Mr. Willie Grandy and Sons (Eldon and Tommy Grandy) planted peach trees on their farm. In a few years, they began selling fresh picked peaches and other produce from a small white covered cart on wheels - sstill staing at the south corner of the market. Soundside Orchard expanded in 1999 to the present-day building open until 2007. Thereafter, other leasers rented the market for mainly produce sales.

In 2014 the red-roofed market and grounds became the location for Special Community Events providing sale opportunities for local vendors offering Homegrown/Homemade items. Community Market in Grandy photos may be viewed on Facebook at "Community Market in Grandy."

Today the Red-topped market is leased by Eric Voliva and Steve Voliva as Beacon Seafood. Origionally from Pamlico county North Carolina, Eric and Steve offer a vast variety of fresh, local seafood including crabs, salt and freshwater fish, shrimp, scallops, (and oysters when in season). You'll enjoy meeting Eric, Steve, Linda and the rest of the family - And hearing some great fish stories, too. Chech out the facebook page for weekly specails and recipes.
